Most of us travel to Rote mostly to surf, fish or take in the raw environment that reminds a lot to people what Bali was like back in the day. As development increases around the island and its isolation from the main stream of Indonesian resources we are trying to keep guests aware to being little preventive to reducing the use of plastic and help keep rubbish to a minimum. At Lualemba Bungalow Resort we provide guests with excellent filtered drinking water provided to each bungalow. This has a dramatic reduction in plastic bottle use. Overall I think we have seen enough plastic pollution to know its up to the individual to make a difference in reducing the use of plastic. We are asking guests when they travel to Rote if they can bring their own reusable drink bottle and reusable bags. Surprisingly you will use your reusable bag a lot during your stay like going surfing or out on the boat, going to the local market or buying things down at the local general store. When leaving and if you are feeling generous enough as a nice jester you can leave your reusable drink bottle and reusable bags with the local people to help them understand and educate them that preventing as much plastic use as possible and that people from all around the world are trying to make a difference.

With just couple of simple suggestions you can easily make a difference.

  1. Reusable drink bottle for refilling your drinking water. In this tropical environment it is recommended that consumption of 1.5 litres a day.

  2. Reusable bags that are available from most supermarkets in your home town. handy for purchasing goods from shops and market days reducing use of plastic bags. They also handy for going surfing with the boat etc.

  3. These days there are more companies selling natural suncream and zinc products. A lot of oil based sunscreen and zincs are proving harsh destruction to marine life and reef corals. At Lualemba Bungalows we have a natural swimming pool that people must remove these creams before entering the pool.

We suggest as an option that if you are feeling generous that you leave your bags and drink bottles to pass onto the local people to help minimise plastic use throughout the island.
